CYP - College & Young Adults

CYP is a group of college-aged and young-adult Christians dedicated to living out the Gospel of Christ here in our community.  We are current WFU, WSSU, Forsyth Tech, and Salem college students, graduate students, and working professionals who share a strong desire to know and serve our Lord.

Things we do... Worship, sing, learn, and pray together, enjoy helping others and our community with service projects, get together a lot to hang out and have fun, take weekend trips together, (skiing, retreats, etc.), and spend time with others in our church family at South Fork and participate in church events.

Youth Ministry

Our Youth group includes students 6th grade through 12th.  Time together with fellow Christians is important to teens today.  Our youth ministry seeks to help them face the daily pressures of this world.  We want our young people to understand that the Christian walk is not alone and the presence of Christ, as well as friends who share their faith and values will help them through this exciting and challenging time.

Girls Bible Study ~ a weekly Bible study for both the High School and CYP ladies covering a variety of Bible topics.

Man- Time ~ a weekly time for the high school men of the church to gather and look at the example that Christ set for us to be men that shine His light.

Youth Mission to Inner City Atlanta.  The teens from South Fork traveled to Atlanta, GA to work with an inner city congregation doing community service work this past June.

Other Stuff : we also have one or two big retreats per year to allow the youth to get away and focus on their spiritual walk. Winterfest, Impact and Other Youth events such as Youth Rallies are events that we attend that help us with Christ mold these young men and women into mature, faithful, Christian adults.

Youth MinisterDavid Keen is our Youth Full-Time Minister. He and his wife Kiera are involved in the daily opportunity and blessing of working with our kids here at South Fork.

Words cannot express the joy and gladness we feel everyday to see these young men and women grow and mature in Christ’s footsteps.
“ For you are the potter, and we are the clay".  Isaiah 64:8

Our prayer is that Christ will use us in what ever way he sees fit, to fulfill His will.

Iglesia de Cristo

Brewer Road Church of Christ
Brewer Road Church of Christ is the local Hispanic mission work that South Fork helps support in this community. The congregation has grown to an average attendance of about 170 on Sunday mornings.  This growth is due to the members reaching out to their families and friends, and the different ministries we have developed such as: summer day camp sponsored by the YMCA; parenting and marriage classes; one on one bible studies; recreational activities;  marriage and family counseling; translation assistance in hospital/legal/educational issues; and reading club.

Gustavo and Goyo also serve the Hispanic community w/ their involvement w/ the “Centro Hispano” (Hispanic Center), Youth Opportunities (both serve on the board of directors) Family Services, Philo Middle School.  Brewer road is involved in mission work in Mexico and Venezuela.

Our women’s ministry organizes children’s classes, church fellowships, and meets on Saturday mornings for bible study. South Fork not only serves this ministry in a monetary way but is very involved, providing teachers on Sunday mornings for 2 different age groups of bible class; running a tutoring program for school children K thru 5th grade on Saturday mornings; and participating in bilingual services several times a year.

Ministers of Brewer Road Church of Christ “Iglesia de Cristo”

Goyo Nieto became an evangelist in September 1997 and worked for the San Cristobal congregation in western Venezuela.  He met his wife, Sarah, while she was visiting the church on a mission trip.  Goyo received a formal education in the Biblical and Ministerial field at Harding University.  Goyo, Sarah, and GiGi came to Winston-Salem in July of 2003 to work in the preaching ministry with the Brewer Road Church of Christ.

Gustavo Prato has been in the ministry since 1983 in Venezuela.  He and his wife, Sheryl, were married in 1983.  Gustavo received a Bachelors Degree in Bible and Ministry and his Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling at Harding University.  Gustavo, Sheryl and their three children; Lisette, Dylan, and Eric moved to Winston-Salem in 2006 to work in family counseling.  Gustavo’s skilled counseling services are available to all.

Missions

Eastern European Ministries provides Bibles to former communist countries such as Russia and the Ukraine.  With God’s handiwork the organization has been able to have the Bible incorporated as a teaching tool in the education system of the schools in Russia. As opportunities have become more difficult in Russia, doors have opened in the Ukraine.
This year EEM was asked to provide a camp program teaching Bible based character traits and lessons for life in the Youth Camps of the Ukraine.  These were once the Youth Communism Summer Camps and host two million children throughout the summer.  A team from South Fork will travel to Donetsk, Ukraine to teach for two weeks this summer.

Guatemala medical mission support is provided for Sheri Kretzschmar, R.N., working with Health Talents International.  Sheri has plans to work in the northern mountains of Guatemala in Santa Cruz, hosting rural medical clinics and church support in this extreme rural area of Guatemala.

Haiti support is provided for the School of Biblical Studies in Cap Haitian.  For over 10 years, South Fork has assisted this preacher training school to assist with church growth in rural northern Haiti.

In Nigeria, the African Christian Hospital has been serving the Lord by providing much needed health care to the extremely poor Biafran region for decades.  This year, two groups from South Fork will travel to Nigeria to assist and train the physician missionary team working in this hospital. South Fork also supports mission work in Panama and in a host of other countries through summer college student mission work.
