Our elders announced last Sunday that we are beginning the process of selecting more men to serve as elders of our South Fork church family. The selecting of men to serve as elders is a critical time in the life of a church. Here are some qualities our church will look for in these godly leaders, based on two key Biblical passages.

1 Timothy 3:1–7, 11

  • A noble task
  • Above reproach
  • Husband of but one wife
  • Temperate
  • Self-controlled
  • Respectable
  • Hospitable
  • Able to teach
  • Not given to drunkenness
  • Not violent, but gentle
  • Not quarrelsome
  • Not a lover of money
  • Manages his own family well
  • Sees that his children obey and respect him
  • Not a recent convert
  • Has a good reputation with outsiders
  • His wife is respectful, not a malicious talker,
  • temperate and trustworthy
  • Loves what is good
  • Holy
  • Disciplined
  • Holds firmly to the trustworthy message

Titus 1:5–16

  • Blameless; upright
  • Husband of but one wife
  • Self-controlled, not quick-tempered
  • Hospitable
  • Not given to drunkenness
  • Not violent
  • Not pursuing dishonest gain
  • Children believe, are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient

Please be prayerful for our church family and participate in this process over these next several weeks. We have an administrative committee in place led by Chuck Hummel and they will guide us through this process in a way that honors God, seeks His will and effectively facilitates the church’s calling out of these leaders.
