October 9

Dear Samuel and Isaac,
Though you are just finishing your first year on this earth, you have heartily blessed Gammy and Papa’s life and the lives of so many others! You are a gift to us from our great and merciful God, and we could never thank Him enough for you. On the event of your first birthdays this month, I have a few prayers and hopes for you.

I pray that:
Like Enoch, you will walk with God;
Like Abraham, you will have great faith in your Creator;
Like Joshua, you and your house will serve the Lord;
Like Rahab, you will recognize the Lord is the one true and living God and worship Him;
Like Job and Habakkuk, you will learn to trust God even when you don’t understand Him;
Like David, you will be—though imperfect—a man after God’s own heart;
Like Solomon, you will seek wisdom, but unlike him you will follow your own advice;
Like the prophets, you will cry out against the injustices of your day;
Like Esther, you will answer when called upon “for such a time as this;”
Like the apostles, you will leave everything and follow Jesus;
Like Lydia, you will open your home to others;
Like Paul, you will respond in faith to the gospel of Christ and share the good news with others.
Gammy and I love you both more than life itself.
